שילוב טיפול אורתו'-כירורגי

ישנם ליקויי סגר בהם הפער בין הלסתות (הן בגדול הלסת והן במיקום המרחבי שלה) הינו גדול מאד , ובהעדר גדילה של הלסתות (כלומר לאחר סיום תקופת הגדילה) לא ניתן לשנות את מקום הלסתות אלא באמצעות הזזתן בניתוח. 

בטיפול המשלב בין יישור שיניים לניתוח בלסתות, יתכננו המומחה לכירורגית הפה והלסתות והאורתודונט את המיקום החדש של הלסתות הן מבחינה אסתטית והן מבחינה תפקודית, דבר שיאפשר מיקום נכון של השיניים במנשך תקין.  

היתרונות בתהליך שכזה הם לא רק יצירת סגר תקין ואסתטי אלא גם שיפור ביכולת הבליעה והלעיסה, הדיבור והנשימה ולעיתים אף מערב תיקון של מבנה הסנטר והאף.

תזוזת השיניים תתבצע לעיתים לפני התהליך הניתוחי, לעיתים אחריו ולעיתים גם לפני וגם אחרי. 

ישנם כיום כלים טכנולוגיים תלת מימד להדמיה של התהליך הכירורגי ולתכנון מדויק של תוצאותיו.
